XING starts brandishing the marketing battle axe against the US leader LinkedIn: by means of a large communication campaign in the UK, “Start Networking, not just Linkin’ ” (nice allusion to the competitor by the way 😉 ), that includes offline measures such as 400 billboards in the London Underground, commercials in the free morning newspaper Metro, and online banners on websites like The Times, The Guradian, Sky News, Reuters and Hotmail, the Germany-based Social Business Community is looking to gain stronger foothold in Great Britain.
Apart from advertising the network itself, the online tool MyNetworkValue is put forward to attract new members. This site helps you determine the strength and monetary value of your network. A gadget, in my opinion.
All in all, XING makes a nice move here. Will it become stronger on the British market? With LinkedIn having started their own targeted Ad Network, XING will have to hurry to keep up with the US-giant’s pace. Good for the Germans that they have started to put more emphasis on B2B services.
