Highly interesting data from CB Insights about HR Tech investment in the past five years.

It is more than fair to say that HR Tech investment has started to boom since the end of last year. But not just that: the deal sizes got much bigger compared to previous years.

However this year, the giant funding round of Zenefits in May (500 mio USD at a valuation of 4.5 bn USD), has contributed to that as well.

Here’s some info from their Blog:

Over the last 5 years, HR tech startups have seen an explosion in investment. Funding for full-year 2014 was $1.9B, compared to ~$100M in 2010. Deal count, similarly, almost quadrupled between 2011 and 2014. During the first two quarters of 2015, HR tech startups have taken in $1.4B across 99 deals, putting the industry on pace for $2.8B total in funding this year, which would be a 47% increase over 2014.

My analysis did rather reveal 75 HR Tech deals so far – but there seem to be some companies on CB Insights radar, which I would not necessarily consider as HR Tech.

Anyway, the figure of 1.4 bn USD up until now almost corresponds with my findings.
